There’s only one photo that can adequately sum up the events of this past weekend.

Sketch of the Day: “She Moves”
I feel I’ve been changing and growing in ways I never expected lately. In fact, I just made it to third base - Artistic third base, that is -
I sketched my first nude.
No, I wasn’t looking at a nude model (although that day will come, I’m sure), I just sketched a lady and left her clothes off.
It’s funny, because for a long time I felt nudity was something to be abhorred and protected, it was all sex and no art. Boy, was I dumb. After I made some life changes, I was able to see a lot of things in life were more beautiful than I’ve ever known - including the human body. As I studied more and more artists, I saw lots of nudes in their portfolios. Even Disney animators, the people whose work my childhood was built upon, even they drew nudes. Yep. It was time to pop my art cherry.
Because it’s a nude, I’m not just gonna whip it out on here, so you can click here to check it out.
This guy was singing at Borders bookstore in Glendale, so I sketched him.
His name is Raul Odonnal, and not only did he have an awesome voice and choice of songs, but he’s a pretty nice guy and enjoyed my sketch after his performance.
You can check out his work at raulodonnal.com
This was my first instance where I drew from a live person then talked to them after. Most of the time I’m sneaky and feel like a weirdo. But for the most part I am starting to come out of my shell as an artist. I no longer feel scared that the picture isn’t going to be good enough. I just draw.
I made good use of my Sketchbook Pro app on my iPad, and I drew with a Griffin stylus.
I’ve Been Away. Here’s the Haps.
So I broke my promise. I forgot about my blog.
Oh well, but here’s what’s been going on with me:
- I found out I am joining the rest of my family on a trip to Orlando, Florida, where we will be living it up at Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and EPCOT. Can you say STOKED? YES I CAN.
- I bought myself a used iPad to use as a mobile device and digital sketchbook. It. Is. AWESOME. I was a total hater until I found out about Autodesk’s Sketchbook Pro app, and I’ve been making good use of it. I’ll upload my latest sketches separately.
- No major artworks in the time being.
- I have decided I am going to pursue my artistic endeavors much more intensely, as there are some things I’d like get better at - but I honestly hope I am always finding a way to improve and learn, even as an old, old man.
- That’s all.
Sketch of the Day: Singing

Here’s another sketch, this time of a girl who sings so amazingly that a music note pops up next to her :P
A Little Facelift
So I’ve decided my previous blog title, Life: My Way*, made me sound like a bitch.
And I hope I’m not one. A bitch, I mean.
So here’s to a little digital facelift, featuring a creation of my own, MaoMao: =(^._.^)=
MaoMao was born in a text message to my BFF Sheridan. We were experimenting with emoticons, and I think mine turned out pretty sick. As in cool.
Also, I think Artist • Observer • Dork fits pretty nicely. Because I am those three things, and not a selfish diva like before.
And if you’re close to me, you’ll notice I Germanicise a lot of phrases by adding Der and ending with schnitzel. No, I’m not German. Yes, it’s kinda dumb. But it’s me.
Every Thursday, I’ll post amusing photos from my mobile adventures.
Something that cracks me up all the time is when I see silly-looking kids on toy packaging. I mean, these kids can’t possibly look like this in their normal family photos, right?
Right?!
So, this guy in England was like, “Hm. I wonder if I can get a decent shot of the International Space Station as it passes tonight?” So he got out his big telescope, Digital SLR, and hookups, and set out to shoot into the clear night sky. Turns out he captured a pretty damn clear image of not only the ISS, but Shuttle Discovery just before docking!
Mind you, these spacecraft are traveling 17,000 miles per hour, 200 miles above the ground.
It sounds like he’s an experienced astrophotograper (he tracked the station by hand as it passed in the telescope’s view), but even he couldn’t believe what he had captured. So he sent it to NASA, and they featured his image - which is how I found it - on their photo page.
Things My Mom Says When She's Sick
- The following is an actual dialog I had with my mother, who is now sick with what I had the past week. It's not a fun bug to have. And it makes you really... really... groggy.
- Me: Here's your yogurt, mama.
- Mom: ... Wait, where's my beans?
- Me: ... Beans?
- Mom: (Laughs) Beans! I mean, SPOON! Hahaha!
- Me: (Laughs)
- ---
- Mom: Did you already eat your yogurt?!
- Me: I didn't have any.
- Mom: Then what are you chewing?
- Me: Bread.
- Mom: Who?!
- Me: Bread.
- Mom: Bread?! ... Bread?
- Me: Wait, "Who?!"
- Mom: Oh, like... bread. Like what I made?
- Me: Why did you ask 'who' I was eating? (Laughs)
- Mom: (Laughs).
